Built in 1936, the Department of Interior (DOI) Main Interior Building (MIB) boasts a rich history as the first building constructed in Washington, D.C. under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “New Deal” program. This seven-story, 1.3 million square foot headquarters building houses the offices of the Secretary of the Interior, department employees, Interior Museum, and Interior Library.
